July ‘10 Food Blog:
In the Thali kitchens we always try to change our menu to include as many fresh, seasonally inspired recipes as possible, and this year we’re going to be offering even more choice, with our new seasonal specials boards.
We’ll be be cooking up some exciting regional Indian dishes to go on our specials board alongside our famous Thalis. These special dishes will focus on including the freshest local produce - what’s in season, local and organic where possible, and will be inspired by the authentic recipes of Indian elders, passed down from generation to generation.
Some of the specials appearing across our 4 restaurants this month will include Free range tikka wings. Local Gloucester chicken wings marinaded in our special herbs and spices, skewered and cooked on the Tawa hotplate. Goan trout masala Sustainable local trout, marinaded in delicious green herbs and chilli and seared. Our fish arrives daily from Tovey’s fishmongers in Easton. Paneer and local vegetable skewers. Chunky Indian paneer cheese marinaded in spicey tomato sauce.
This months changing Thali menu is bursting with flavour, Aloo Palak, Baby potatoes cooked with organic spinach which is grown in a field just outside Bristol. A hearty and delicious Tindoori and Sweetcorn Thoran– Tasty South Indian Tindoori and fresh corn fried with savoury herbs and spices and grated coconut.
Our Crunchy Kerelan Salad as always is packed with fresh UK produced vegetables fennel, radish and organic toasted seeds. Thali Homemade Chutneys have been improved, they’re now even more packed with fresh ingredients – the perfect match for a pile of our crispy poppadoms.
Don’t forget that our new Mogul Chicken Thali is now available at our Easton, Clifton and Totterdown restaurants. The centerpiece is a big bowl of Chicken curry, made with the best Free range chicken from local Gloucester farms. Cooked on the bone, it’s a deliciously simple and rustic home-cooked recipe, which has been handed down from our chef Prasads family.
Clifton Thali, the newest addition to the Thali family, is now open through the day Tuesday to Sunday, with the same lunch menu that you’ll find in our Easton branch. Meals include our ever popular Mogul Chicken Curry, our famous Masala Dosa pancakes, Goan Fish Curry, Masala Fish Fry, plus loads of specials and homemade cakes.
All our daytime staff are now Barista Trained and we make top quality organic coffee and tea all day long. We’re family friendly and hope our restaurants are the perfect place to get comfortable and relax, so come and take a seat, and don’t forget to come and see us as we hit the road this summer, as we pitch up to feed the hungry masses at some of the finest festivals in the country…
